"An inquiry-oriented activity in which some or all of the information that learners interact with comes from resources on the internet, optionally supplemented with videoconferencing" this is according to Dodge’s original publication.

Since those beginning days, tens of thousands of teachers have embraced Web Quests as a way to make good use of the internet while engaging their students in the kinds of thinking that the 21st century requires. The model has spread around the world.” Web Quests as cooperative groups. Each learner within a group can be given a "role," or specific area to research. Web Quests may take the form of role-playing scenarios, where students take on the persona's of professional researchers or historical figures. A teacher can search for Web Quests on a particular topic or they can develop their own using a web editor like Microsoft frontage or Dream weaver. This tool allows learners to complete various tasks using other Cognitive tools. Web Quests may be created by anyone; typically they are developed by educators. The first part of a Web Quest is the introduction. This describes the Web Quest and gives the purpose of the activity. Next describes what students will do. In this mater web quest used by the teacher are effective for the teaching strategy where the student will used their mind in solving the problem and analyzing the situation so that they will be able to finish the mission. In creating a web quest their must be a quest and a task where the student will base on what they need to do. It will help the student to improve their cognitive ability in solving the mission. On the part of the teacher it will be easy for her to improve their capabilities in solving the situation.
